Taneytown, MD is a city located in Carroll County with a rich history dating back to before it was founded in 1754. George Washington once wrote about Taneytown. Much of the city, including the Bullfrog Road Bridge, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Taneytown was the first city in Maryland to establish English as the official language. It was the headquarters of Civil War Army General George Meade during part of the Civil War. Another Civil War General, Jacob G. Lauman, was born in Taneytown.
